Truth time.
I hadn't planned to do a tutorial of this so the pictures aren't as explanatory as I'd like.
Basically though, begin with the two flat sides of your mailbox.
Cut them out. Using the hot glue gun, attach the flat pieces to the edges of your side pieces. Shape them around the corners and curves.
Create a slotted top that fits onto the curve you've made. This will be where the mail goes in, obviously. Before gluing that, trace the area. Cut away the area that will hidden by the slot.
To make retrieving the mail easier, make a small door somewhere on the box.
Mine was on the bottom. Cut 3 sides, leaving one side of the door attached to the box. To secure the door when not in use, I made a string and button closure.
And here's a picture of the completed project! It has it's imperfections but it's perfect for my needs.
