Voting @ the Library for kids

What's a Presidential Election if there's no run-off between literary characters at the library?

This election, our Voting Storytime looked a little different than usual.

There was no in-house story time, there was no mock booth for the kids to mark their ballot inside and there was no big announcement for our winner.

However, there was minimal-contact voting and a virtual puppet show to go along with the big day! So keep reading

Our election was between Llama Llama and The Grinch. We have stuffed animal characters for each of them that the kids LOVE so that's how we decided on these two guys.

Voting

To keep us from having to wipe down or give out every pencil that was touched (Covid and all that), each ballot had a sticker stapled to the top corner.

This sticker was used to mark which character was being voted for.

Voting took place over 2 days; the day prior to the real election and the day of.

Puppet Show

Our library has been posting library programs virtually thus far and in lieu of reading a book that would have to be taken down eventually, we decided to write a puppet show about the election.

In the show, it's election day and Goat is on his way to vote when he crosses paths with his good friend Rabbit. Rabbit is unsure about voting because she never decided who she wanted to vote for - Grinch or Llama Llama.

Goat explains why she's voting for Llama Llama and helps explain to Rabbit that she should research who she wants to vote for and not skip out on voting like she was planning to.

CLICK HERE for a copy of the script I wrote! It's a great stand alone script (If I do say so myself 😄).

The interaction between Goat and Rabbit ends with Rabbit going to the library to read up on the 2 candidates. Goat plans to meet her later at the polls that night.

Senator Orr was kind enough to make a cameo appearance in our video in a second scene with Rabbit at the library. There, Rabbit asks him questions about why voting is important.

Feel free to use my script if you'd like! And I'd be honored with any credit you want to give me or my blog.
